When I heard that RE-AMP was hosting the Network Thinking Academies, I was thrilled. I’ve been so impressed by the thoughtful approach they take to care for their Network, treating it as a living ecosystem rather than a machine. For the past year, I’ve been working closely with them to build and adapt a social systems map of their network and I’m really looking forward to sharing that experience with you at the Academy. My hope is that it will inspire you to see into your own networks in new ways so that you can think more holistically about the care you give to them.
Applications are open at the early bird rate of $750 per person (includes all meals and lodging) until August 29th.
Space is limited for both academies. Learn more about the two academies–one for network practitioners (staff and leaders) and one for funders–below. There is an optional third day for funders and practitioners from the same network to engage in an intensive workshop.
For Practitioners: An Academy to Apply Systems Thinking to Care for Networks
This event is for network practitioners and leaders whose role is to support networks. We recommend at least one year of experience to maximize the benefits of this training. The first day will be held together with those attending the Funders Academy. Together, we will share our experiences and deepen our learning about systems thinking, network mapping, values, and evaluation. On the second day, we will explore patterns that perpetuate white supremacy culture in our networks, examine those patterns, and apply systems thinking to our network practice.
For Funders: An Academy on Mindsets and Tools for Funding and Evaluating Collaborative Approaches to Systems Change
This event is for funders at any stage of engagement with social-impact networks. The first day will be held together with network practitioners. Together, we will share our experiences and deepen our learning about systems thinking, network mapping, values, and evaluation. On the second day, we will take a deeper dive into evaluation and will learn practices for navigating power dynamics to promote deep collaboration.
Funders and practitioners engaged in the same social-impact network may opt to apply for a customized intensive workshop on December 5. We recommend reaching out to Gail Francis (email@example.com) to discuss whether this would be a good fit for you. Space is limited.
You can find applications for the Academies, information about the facilitators, and more on the website. Don’t hesitate to reach out directly with any questions you have. Contact Sarah Ann Shanahan (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions about the Practitioners Academy, and contact Gail Francis (email@example.com) with questions about the Funders Academy.
See you in Chaska!
Christine Capra, Greater than the Sum
P.S. Gail Francis, RE-AMP’s Strategic Director, recently completed research concerning the role that perceptions of fairness play in enabling collaboration. She surveyed 85 members of 57 unique networks, hosted group discussions with more than 20 practitioners, interviewed 12 thought leaders, and built off of previous research to learn about the factors that enable high-quality collaboration.
