Building Your Theory of Change

May 7 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm EDT

A theory of change is far more than a methodological tool; it is a strategic and narrative compass that helps clarify why and how our actions contribute to lasting transformation. It invites us to make explicit the links between our intentions, our activities, and the changes we seek to bring about, while recognizing the complexity of the human and community contexts in which we work.

This interactive workshop offers step-by-step guidance to help you develop a theory of change tailored to your organization, initiative, or project. Through guided reflection, concrete examples, and collaborative exercises, you will explore the key elements that underpin a theory of change: community needs and aspirations, underlying assumptions, the conditions required for change, and short-, medium-, and long-term outcomes. You will learn how to articulate a clear vision of change that is grounded both in your values and in on-the-ground realities.

The workshop will also provide foundational learning to strengthen your understanding of evaluation and strategic planning. Together, we will explore the concept of a framework, the distinction between theoretical and conceptual frameworks, and the central role that theories of change play in shaping and communicating compelling stories of impact.

The workshop will be conducted in English; however, the slides will be bilingual, all activities will be prepared in English and French, and the presenter is also bilingual in English and French and would be happy to receive questions in either official language.
