Networks That Build Black Futures
February 18, 2022 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
What is “network” for social change? Why do we at Beatufiul Ventures identify as a “Network”? In the 21st century, organizations are reaching their limits of effectiveness. The challenges we face as Black people can no longer be solved by larger and more sophisticated organizations. Networks, webs of connected individuals and organizations, are perfectly suited to address the sticky, complex problems and meet the opportunities of our times. As a collective of Black creatives and change makers, we will explore the concepts and practices of thinking and moving like a network from a Black liberation perspective.
How have Black people worked towards liberation with and beyond single organizations or top-down coalitions? Come find out why we call ourselves the Beautiful Ventures **Network**, and why we speak of “cultivating the eco-system for #TheNextHarlemRenaissance”. We’d love to meet you in The Beautiful Ventures Dark Tower* during this special Network Gathering in honor of Black History Month.
This interactive learning space will be facilitated by a close collaborator of the BV Network — lawrence barriner II. Lawrence (he/him) is a Black Queer storyteller, narrative strategist, writer, and liberation worker who values love, justice, community, and transformation. In addition, two of our closest co-conspirators for getting into “good trouble” for Black liberation — Allen Frimpong of Zeal Coop and Liberation Ventures and Jamye Wooten of Baltimore’s CLLCTVLLY — will join in this dynamic discussion.
