Stories That Change Us: Exploring Equity through Shared Experience
September 2 @ 8:00 am - September 17 @ 5:00 pm EDT

The Fito Network, in collaboration with Illuminate, invites you to a series of global storytelling workshops where we will gather to share, reflect, and listen.
Together, we’ll explore how equity and justice show up in our work, and how stories, in all their complexity and power, can help us see, feel, and shift systems.
Why stories? Why now?
In every movement for justice and systems change, stories are more than messages; they are catalysts. They move people. They make the invisible visible and shift how we think and relate.
But storytelling isn’t just about broadcasting our narratives more widely. It’s about deep listening, about holding space for narratives that might otherwise be left out. It’s about being changed by what we hear, and allowing that transformation to ripple outward into our work, our networks, and our systems.
As conversations around equity become more complex, stories can help us stay grounded in what matters. They remind us what equity looks like in practice, and how we can continue to learn and grow together.
What is this space?
You’re invited to join a new kind of storytelling experience. One that centers relationality over reach, change over clicks, and connection over performance.
This is not your typical storytelling workshop. It’s an invitation to gather around a question:
What becomes possible when we listen to one another’s stories, deeply, and let those stories change us?
It’s part of a growing effort to explore storytelling as a practice of equity and systems change. Not just to better understand how to craft and tell our network stories, but also as a space to share, reflect, and imagine together.
What kind of stories will we share?
We’re especially interested in the quiet, complex, and powerful stories that often go unheard:
-
🔆 How equity shows up (or doesn’t) in our everyday networks and weaving work
-
❤️ Encounters that shifted our practice, power, or relationships
-
🔍 Stories that challenges dominant narratives of impact or leadership
-
💭 Moments that changed our assumptions or deepened our clarity
Who is this for?
This space is for movement builders, narrative changers, funders, weavers, and network practitioners who are curious about the role of narrative in systems change, navigating the tension between telling stories and living them, and interested in exploring storytelling as a cultural and relational practice – not just a communications tool.
You don’t need to consider yourself a storyteller to join. Only someone who centres equity in their work and is open to sharing and being shaped by stories.
What will we do together?
In this 90-minute interactive session, we’ll:
-
💬 Hear from others about how equity and system change have shaped their work and networks
-
🎧 Practice deep listening. Not just to understand, but to be changed
-
🐚 Explore how storytelling can become a collective and transformative practice, not just an individual act
What will I leave with?
-
🫂 A renewed sense of connection to others working at the frontlines of justice and systems change
-
💡 Practical tips on how to craft stories of equity, justice, and movement-building
-
✏️ Fresh language to articulate the deeper impact of your weaving work
-
📚 A few good stories, heard and held, that will stay with you
-
🌱 Seeds of possibility: new questions, new relationships, and perhaps new pathways strengthen equity within your ecosystem
