Farm to School as a Catalyst to Local Food System Change
October 23, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Free
Did you know that October is National Farm to School Month? It’s a perfect opportunity to learn about how the New Hampshire Farm to School(NHFTS) program facilitates connections between NH farms, fishermen, K-12 schools, and communities that support learning, community building, and economic opportunity. Since it began in 2003, NHFTS has helped over half the public schools in the state bring local food into the cafeteria and classroom.
In 2016, NHFTS launched the Beacon Community project, a three-year collaborative effort intended to align communities around a shared vision and goals to support healthy, local food choices in schools and in the community at large. In this webinar, we will be sharing about the approach and exciting results to date from the Beacon Community project. We will share ideas and practical examples of how a community can use Farm to School to bring together a cross section of community members to explore the potential of doing something bigger related to healthy, local food access for kids and the community. The Beacon Communities approach enables people to share, connect, align, and amplify the work already underway and work together to do more.
Our presenters include Stacey Purslow (NHFTS) and Beth Tener (New Directions Collaborative)
