White Women and the Power Paradox: 4 Part Workshop
June 24, 2021 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm
Greetings,
For our 2nd year in a row, we are offering a summer White Women and the Power Paradox class series, which we lovingly referred to as “White Lady Summer School” which starts on Thursday, June 24th, 12:00-1:30 pm EDT and goes for 4 sessions: July 1, 8th and 15th.
It’s been a hell of a year. Many went from waking up, to reading all the books, to…did you stall out? Are you challenged by what’s next for you?
Our 4 part series is designed to continue to hold the mirror up to ourselves so we can keep seeing the ways we don’t acknowledge the power we have individually and collectively to interrupt racism. We have learned more about how our power manifests in our behaviors and in decisions we make daily in organizations in this past year, but there’s more work to do so we can lead even more boldly. This class is designed to help us keep going in a strategic way in our lives personally and professionally.
The curriculum is designed to help us deepen our historical and present day analysis for why we are not neutral as white women. To unpack directly why women of color, especially black women, don’t trust us as “allies” in racial justice movement building. We peel away blind spots through taking a personal equity audit for white people. We dive into White Supremacy Culture as a foundational ingredient for culture change. We get more clear and articulate about why sustained racial justice work matters to us, our businesses and our movements.
Details about the origins of White Women and the Power Paradox are on Madeline’s website and on Brianna’s website.
There’s interest in taking the course a 2nd time, which we welcome you to do. To sign up directly through Eventbrite, go here. We would love for you to spread the word using this postcard. We hope to see you in our class very soon.
In solidarity,
Brianna and Madeline
